It was that time of the month again. You know, the time when you needed to restock your fridge and refresh the kitchen’s snack cabinet. In reality it should have been down last week, but Thea just hadn’t had the funds to do so. If it hadn’t been for the generosity of her new neighbors she and her seven month old daughter would have starved to death the last couple of days, but there wasn’t much she could do about it. She had to wait for her pay check and now that she got it and cashed it she could get what she needed from the store, and hopefully have enough left over to pay her neighbor’s for the help they had given her.
Glancing up in the rear view mirror Thea smiled at the sight of her daughter, Kaylene, sleeping peacefully in her car seat. If she was lucky her little Kay would continue her nap throughout her little shopping spree. Returning her attention to the road, she searched the surrounding area for a place to park her old beat up Volvo. After ten minutes of driving around the lot in circles she decided there was no hope in finding a spot close to the door and took the available space near the back of the parking lot. There would be a small hike, something she wanted to avoid while carrying Kaylene, but what could she do?
Carefully pulling into her spot the young mom sighed as she killed the engine. Alright She thought, reaching over to grab her purse.Let’s get this done and over with. Shrugging her purse onto her shoulder she reached and opened her door and stepped out, smoothing out her baby blue and white stripped baby doll before closing the door behind her and heading to carefully pull her daughter from the car, hoping not to wake her with the sudden move. She smiled down at the angel face as she held the car seat by the handle. Kaylene wasn’t at all disrupted from her beauty sleep.
After grabbing the diaper back, Thea waddled towards the store entrance begging no one would speed by and throw her off balance. With Kaylene being carried with one hand and her purse and diaper bag propped on the shoulder of her other she was having a bit of a hard time; neither Kaylene or the diaper bag were light anymore. Kaykay was no longer that five pounds she was at birth. She was growing rapidly, and she wasn’t sure she was okay with that. The next thing she’d know Kaylene would be in kindergarten, then eighth grade, then graduating high school and going away for college. A brief wave of panic over took Thea and she had to stop to take a deep breath to remind herself all that way years from now. Kaykay was only seven months old after all.
Finally making her way into the store Thea looked around with a slight frown. The place was big and still very unfamiliar to her. There was no way she’s get out of here quickly. With a sigh of defeat she moved to grab a cart and carefully place the car seat with her pride and joy tucked inside in the back. “Alright,” She muttered softly to herself, not knowing which way to go first. “Let’s get this done and over with.”
